Yes, I've done this with all the BBCs I use. I've replaced or
added a Torch auxilary power connector - a 9-pin D socket, as seen
in the picture at http://mdfs.net/Info/Comp/BBC/pics with this
pinout:
    5    4    3    2    1
   nc  +12v  -5v  +5v  0v
 
     -12v  -5v  +5v   0v
       9    8    7    6
 
However, I can't really supply bits with the instructions "first,
replace your PSU socket..."
 
I /could/ supply bits with no power lead at all, and leave it to
the user to decide how to power it.
