Been there, done that.
I can tell you, its not blindingly fast on the user port either. 1MHz
bus might be interesting to try, but keep in mind PC printer ports
aren't intended for high speed data transfer, and some of the newer ones
have exactly 10p spent on them, so they don't run fast at all (Since all
scanners went to USB, fast printer ports are seen as a "not needed"
thing...).
