Subject: Re: Advice on digital photographs
I've done some test photos, along with some mock-ups of me
actually taking the pictures. Go to http://mdfs.net/testpics - but
be warned - the page fetches 10M of data!
The G-SHOT has several settings:
Zoom: x1 x4
Image Quality: Super High High Normal
Image Size: 1600x1200 2048x1536
I set the camera to Zoom x1, Super High Quality, 2048x1536
Some of the pictures at testpics are also done at Zoom x4
On the page there are three columns of pictures. The first column
is the raw original 2048x1536 pictures transfered directly from
the camera by a file copy using the camera as a USB mass storage
device. These average about 700K, and are the picture I keep as
the source archive, saved to CD-ROM.
The second column is these pictures reduced in size with Paint
Shop Pro to 640x480 with "Resample with Smart Size", which is the
method that, after quite a bit of experimentation, seemed to me to
give the best results. These average about 50K, and are the
pictures I usually upload to my website.
The third column is the original 2048x1636 picture reduced in size
to 160x120, some automatically by EasyThumb called by my MkIndex
program (mdfs.net/Software/BBCBasic/Windows/MkIndex) using "Reduce
Smart Size", some manually with Paint Shop Pro with "Resample with
Smart Size". These average about 6K, and are the pictures I use as
thumbnails linking to the 640x480 pictures.
