BBC BASIC has come a long way since 1984.
BASIC V is available for the BBC Microcomputer series and has equivalent
functionality to the versions available on Arthur and RISC OS. Brandy
BASIC is available for many platforms and is equivalent to BBC BASIC V.
There is also BBC BASIC for Windows which surpasses even BASIC V and is
more suited to structured programming. It is the only version of BBC
BASIC that has support for structured data types.
The only problem I have with BBC BASIC these days is not that it isn't
suitable for software development, it is, but just that I cannot write
one program and compile it to run on at least RISC OS, Windows, Linux,
Unix, Solaris and the various Macs.
