It sounds like you are using the RF output and not the composite if you are
having to use a tuner. Composite doesn't need tuning it just plugs directly
in.

Also if you were using the emulator, you could have saved state at various
stages, just incase you did lose a life, and then you could have gone back
to that point. Takes the pressure of a little when doing a walk through.
