I would have thought it would have been helpful to an extent... first
to teach kids that there are platforms other than PC.  Secondly, to
show them that there are computers that you can program at switch on
without needing third party packages, like how it should be... also
that computers should be switched on in seconds not 10 minutes! :-) 
RISC machines are the modern day examples of the above mentioned.
