Subject: Re: pre-System hardware?

There is something here about the Acorn Microcomputer although
it looks like it may just be the System One by another name:

Best wishes,

Subject: [BBC-Micro] pre-System hardware?

Hmmm,

Picked up a Torch disk unit from a chap a few weeks back (who may even be on
this list...) and he happened to mention that he knows of someone with a
single-board Acorn machine that pre-dates the System One.

His recollection is that it's roughly the same size as the System One, but
possibly squarer in shape. I'm hoping I can get some pictures sometime, but in
the meantime, does this sound familiar to anyone?

Couple of possibilities spring to mind:

1) The board's a System One prototype,

2) The board's actually something to do with Acorn's early days when they were
trading as CPU, and is actually an arcade machine controller (although my
experience of those has been that they tend to be large boards and nothing so
smalls as the System CPU cards)

I've never heard of any surviving pre-System hardware before...

cheers

Jules
