Well, I've received good reports about the more recent versions
and v1.5 (which was released last Thursday) supposedly includes
major rewrites to address performance amongst other things.

Anyway, we're not going to rush this (one step at a time etc), so
if this Joomla thing does indeed suck, the damage shouldn't be
completely irreversible ...
