Subject: spam through bbc list

Hi

I'm just catching up on recent postings.

Categorical statements have been made that
a) the "enhancement" spam was not coming via the list
b) e-mail addresses in the archive are made unreadable.

The monthly (private) archive I had obtained every few weeks, up to 25th
October, by sending a "get" request to majordomo@... DOES contain
the full sender's address for each posting.
And it DOES contain the spam which was being complained of.

After that date the (public) archive obtained from http://lists.cloud9.co.uk/pipermail/bbc-micro/
has the "at sign" in the sender's address changed to " at ".

So, if the spam was not coming via the list, why did it appear in the archive?

I am aware that the archive is (or was) also available to all and sundry
via a web page, but it is the cumulative file mentioned above that I am specifically
referring to.

Assuming that everything in said archive was sent on to each and every
member it would surely be useful to know why some members' e-mail clients
did not see the spam at all.
The only explanation I can think of is that some ISPs are dropping spam,
which I would find disturbing.

Finally, many thanks to James for his continuing work for the list.

  Cheers
  Geoff Smith
