I suspect the MDFS code was also in Pascal.
I read somewhere the dual CPU design was dropped because it didn't give
enough benifit for the extra cost involved, with one CPU being mainly idle
most of the time.

You could only put two HDs in an HDFS, and I suspect they would be limited
to around 40MB each, since they were 'ST506' type discs.
The MDFS on the other hand, could handle up to 480MB, didn't weigh a ton
and didn't sound like a jet engine :)
