I wonder if anyone might happen to know what is the problem with
my tape drive, which appears to work to all intents and
purposes, autoloading and rewinding etc. but whenever
I try to format the tapes or write anything, I get a "tape
write protected" error. I have tried about a dozen different
tapes, new and old, with the same result every time. Could
it be a problem with the sensor in the drive?
Either the tape write protect sensor, of the tapes themselves. The sensor in
most drives is optical. If you can point me at a picture of the type of tape
you're using, I can help more. It sounds to me like a good drive with dust
in the sensor, a not uncommon problem.
