Lucky you! Both of my tape drives are dead, although
on my main MDFS the tape drive was said to be working when I bought it.

Most SCSI tape devices 'look' the same at teh host end, and can sometimes be
swapped: you might be able to get an old DAT drive to run.

I wonder what would happen if I changed the Syquest
drive ID to the ID of the tape drive, which I think is 4.

Different here: Syquest is random access device, tape is a stream type
device.

If anyone is thinking of hacking the MDFS code, my request
list is:

1. Bigger disc partitions than 60MB
2. More than 8 partitions per disc
3. More than 8 hard disc partitions available when the
     MDFS is online.
4. More than 8 SCSI IDs available for hard discs

The last one is a no-no I'm afraid, it would be a very serious code hack to
convert to Wide SCSI, and narrow is only specified for 8 devices total -
including the controller, so you have 7 drive 'slots' available.

It's not the MDFS that's a problem here but the SCSI specification.

BTW - I hope to have the 'patient' in rehab and physio next week.
