Subject: [OT] United Kingdom 300th Anniversary
Tuesday 1st May is the 300th anniversay of the enactment of the
Acts of Union that joined England and Scotland - the birth of the
United Kingdom. Disappointingly, nowhere have I seen any
commeration of this historic event. Nothing on television or
radio. The only way I could buy a Union Flag was by buying a beach
towel!
This would never happen in any other country. Look at the
celebrations they have in France on Bastille Day, or the United
States on Independence Day. Is this country so dismissive of its
own history that it ignores, or even just forgets, its own
birthday? It's not every day that a centenary of your own country
comes around.
