I'll admit to soldering a few chips of that sort of pitch once in a while 
using a soldering iron with a good tip, but it's not something I'd like to do 
on any kind of large scale!

I suspect there's a fair few of us on here who could handle soldering normal 
DIL stuff, but I would have thought the number of people with the patience / 
tools / experience to work with any degree of SM is pretty low. (which 
probably makes offering a kit of bits for any hypothetical "new beeb" a bit 
pointless)
