It's not much more than a set of FIFO buffers isn't it?  But I presume
enough details is known somewhere since Sprow managed to replicate it
in the ARM7 co-pro, although I imagine in that design it's integrated
in with the rest of the support circuitry in the FPGA.   I'd imagine
it's possible (for him, not me!) to create a standalone unit that
would perform just the ULA functions, mounted on a suitable board to
act as a plug in replacement... How practical it is from an
engineering, and cost, point of view I can't say.
