They used two back-to-back VIAs, a 6522 on the Acorn side and an 8255 on
the other side. I doubt it even looks like a Tube ULA to the Acorn Tube
host software. As you surmise, trying to use this arrangement as a
drop-in replacement for the 9C ULA is a non-starter.
