I suppose the two motherboards were not the exact same model, or was
a third PC involved regarding the extra PCI slot? The FDC may differ
between two similar but not identical motherboards.

Back to my question, if the drive does not respond on a command from
the BBC, could that be a damaged 6522 chip inside the computer or
something similar? As I wrote, the drive seems to get powered. Since
I had to replace the power supply, I don't know what happened to this
particular BBC Master before. Maybe it once suffered a power spike
that took the PSU and perhaps some chip with it? I do have spare 6522's
to test with if the VIA is typically socketed and you think that might
be a source of fault.
