In programming, changing the format of a floating-point number so the left-most
digit in the mantissa is not a zero.

Subject: [BBC-Micro] Converting numeric representations
What's the process of converting a floating point value to it's
integer representation (eg converting 0.5x2^5 to 16) called, and
the reverse process (eg converting 16 to 0.5x2^5)?
The verb "normalisation" comes to mind, but I'm not sure I'm using
it in the right way.
