Subject: CUB monitor wanted

Sounds weird, IIRC the cub monitors are Earthed! In which case, before
throwing away check the following:

- Is the plug wired correctly
- Does the mains lead have an earth
- Is the Earth connected at both ends (i.e. has it come loose inside the
machine)?
- Is the cable broken?

If the answer to the above are all yes then you may well have faulty
domestic wiring. If the case goes live like this you should not feel it (nor
should the connected beeb) but the circuit breaker/fuse/RCD should
blow/trip.

I'm not a worrier about such things normally but had a similar experience
recently and tracked it down to my house having each ring main's earth
connected to each socket but not to the actual ground. Meaning that when an
item failed in this way the fuse didn't go but every metal item became live:
I was bouncing round my little workshop like a ball in a pinball machine,
except they pinballs don't have the rather extended vocabulary that I was
using! This was funny with hindsight but could have been lethal!

The fault with the monitor could be just a mains filter capacitor, but its
so long since I had a cub that I can't remember how the power supply works
at all.

Subject: [BBC-Micro] CUB monitor wanted

Hi chaps --

Mailed the local freecycle list but thought I'd ask here too.

My CUB monitor has just conked out, throwing a nice bit of mains over the
case. So bad it nuked the Beeb it was connected into as well.

So, does anyone have a spare Microvitec CUB monitor kicking around, that's
in collection distance of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, please? I've got some
guests this weekend who will be interested to see 'the collection'
otherwise I'd just wait for the next time someone was chucking one out.

Perfectly happy to come collect!

Thanks

Joel.x
