 Yep... I used a variety of modems, incluing an actual CommunITel
 branded DaCom ,,,, ?most ended up set to work in that way.

 I've quite not completed this bit yet, but it will support the
 handshake lines between the serial port and the virtual modem. ?OK,
 you'll need to put the "modem" into auto-answer mode (ATS0=1) and
 probably some other command to waggle the virtual DTR in time with teh
 virtual DTR, but once that's done, it should work fine. ?I've not dug
 into the modem-side programing yet, but I think that would all be
 configurable as defaults.

 I'm also going to support a "raw" mode where it just establishes a
 direct connection to whatever server you want (like running a wire
 direct)

 I should get a lot of that done tonight when I get chance to do some
 more coding..
