I don't have GhostScript installed on Azumi (lack of need, lack of
space) but it was installed on the other machine and not only was it
quite useful for opening and resaving PDFs (could knock off quite a bit
in filesize without quality loss), it was also extremely capable with
.ps files. Indeed, IIRC the last issue of Frobnicate was printed as a
PostScript file using OP's direct postscript output, which was fed to
GhostScript to convert to a PDF...

Yikes! Couldn't a pull-up resistor or somesuch have sorted that?
