Tried that but makes no difference.

I think that the Lanmanger is rejecting the share name ( \\sarah\public )
for some reason.

  Are you supplying the domain name on the mount command? As it's a domain I
suspect you'll need to supply <username>@... or
<netbios_domain_name>\<username>, along with the password, of course.
