Subject: Mailing list
I've often wondered why this group isn't carried over Usenet rather
than email, which would possibly solve all the problems described
here. Usenet itself seems to be turning into retro technology itself,
as many groups I've used in the past seem to be suffering low traffic
as people turn to PHP-based web forums instead.
Although Usenet can easily be used by fairly old computers - I have in
front of me a 1989-vintage Macintosh IIci that will browse newsgroups
very capably - I wonder how it might impact upon those members who use
a real BBC to read the list (I'm thinking JGH here). An
Ethernet-equipped Beeb with appropriate software (which I don't think
has been written yet) might do the job - but that reminds me of the
complaint from said individual that the Ethernet interface excludes
the use of Econet on the same machine.
Commence flamewar. Thinking of flamewars in terms of a previous
comment, I have noticed how the standard argument is C64 vs Spectrum,
which always excludes the Beeb. Almost certainly because the Beeb
trounces both :-D
I might be rambling now because I've been drinking quite heavily this
evening. Continue discussion as normal....
