Wasn't there a "Teletext banking" service offered by one of the "major" 
banks many years ago? Abbey National springs to mind.

Basically you ring a number, they tell you "go to page 890 on Channel 4 
and hit Red" and you get "near-realtime" (depending on lag) access to 
your account. I seem to recall you couldn't transfer money around, but I 
do remember sitting on the remote one day and seeing someone's bank 
statements appear on screen... Both nifty and scary at the same time.
