Yes and no.

Yes they do, they're sorta like big tweezers.

No, because they're a bit naff. Especially on old boards where there may 
be corrosion issues, tugging with an EPROM puller actually once left me 
holding the EPROM *plus* the chip socket, and a hell of a resoldering 
job patching up the tracks that got ripped right off the topside of the 
board.
[you'll be pleased to know it was a printer, not Acorn kit!]


The best chip puller I have? It's a blunt child-safe knife. Slimmer than 
screwdrivers, just wedge it in one side. As soon as you get movement, 
take it out and do the opposite side. Repeat, lots, to each the chip up 
little by little.


There's no "quick" method that is guaranteed to work on old hardware. 
Refer to my tale of woe in the first paragraph for an explanation why...
