I never did my own, having always had a double sided drive, but I
ended up with some commercial flippy discs - "banana" was the brand.

Curiously, I found that if one wrote to both sides normally in a DS
drive, then flipped the disc, it was sometimes possible to access
*more* data that way around!

(I discovered this by re-formatting a flipped disc "normally" and
found I could still access the flipped data afterwards ...)
