Thanks!  One of the other things mentioned on that was that
Commodore took standard drives but used different drive electronics,
which as I'd previously mentioned was what I found when we got
a pair 2nd hand - it wasn't just they used standard drives with GPIB
conversion.

Just looking on my shelf, our TEAC drive is an FD-50C-11 (serial 041492);
and does have markings for both 50 and 60Hz strobe timing.

Googling for FD-50C-11 now actually finds some hits unlike when
I last tried this a few years ago; one of the retrotechnology.com
pages you found above, but also someone on a vintagecomputer board with
the signature of 

'Wish list: ZX81, Apple //e,
 BBC B, anything from Sord and some Teac FD-50C-11 100tpi SS drives' 
(although he's in New Zealand by the look of it and that would
be a bit of a shipment!)
