*QL USERS NEWS- QUANTA Needs You*
* *
*Quanta* is the QL Users and Tinkerer's Association - the user group set
up to support the Sinclair QL and compatibles in 1983 (originally called
IQLUG - the Independent QL Users Group).
Quanta do various activities to help keep the spirit of the Sinclair QL
alive, including publishing a bi-monthly magazine, maintaining a library
of useful routines and programs, organising workshops in the UK and
helps to promote international sub-groups all around the globe. Quanta
have also contributed financially to various projects, including the
development of the Q40 / Q60 computers and more recently, the
manufacture of further replacement keyboard membranes. Quanta are
working on scanning in past issues of their magazines and will shortly
publish a version of the Sinclair QL user guide on their website. Their
funds come from the sale of second hand items and also the annual
membership fees.
This is where you come in - Quanta need two things to help take the
user group forward and maintain their support for the Sinclair QL:
1. (The easy bit) - They have developed an online survey and would like
all QL users to complete this - the survey appears at:
http://quanta.nikad.net//index.php?sid=88977&lang=en
<http://quanta.nikad.net/index.php?sid=88977&lang=en>
2. They also need new members (and would welcome back old ones), as well
as new committee members and articles for the magazine. Membership
costs only ?15 per year (if you have the magazine by email -otherwise
there are additional postage charges) and you can join easily on their
website http://www.quanta.org.uk <http://www.quanta.org.uk/>
We at RWAP Software are happy to work alongside Quanta and often sell
items on their behalf. We have also now re-launched the Sinclair QL
Wiki which provides a wealth of information on the Sinclair QL, its
hardware and software, and the traders and personalities involved over
the year - http://www.rwapadventures.com/ql_wiki.
Alongside the Wiki project, we are preserving as much commercial QL
software as possible, converting it to run on emulators and safeguarding
it for the future. If you have a favourite piece of software which no
longer works on your QL (or emulator), then we will probably be able to
provide a working copy on microdrive, disk or as a download for use with
an emulator. All you have to do is ask and prove that you own the
original software (a fee is chargeable for this service).
