I agree with you, that this decapping needs to be left to the professionals.
I hope you had proper supervision with your experiments and did a full COSH
risk assessment. I would not want anything untoward to happen with your
alchemy. :-D

I think actually you did miss the point.  The common method of decapsulating
chips -- specifically standard plastic packaged ICs -- does indeed use acid:
fuming nitric acid.  Those of us with some experience in these matters had
already said so, and the email of mine that you responded to was my
description of a demonstration that lesser acids are ineffective.

I did look at the MAME pages you linked to, but they have less information
than we'd already discussed (but they do in fact mention that the decapping
is done with fuming nitric acid). The author of those pages claims no direct
experience of decapsulation techniques; he sent his to a lab.
