The skills gap shall forever prevail it seems...

Something's gone wrong with the way the programming skill has filtered down 
from the professional world, through academia down to the lay man.  It's 
depressing that many people aren't interested in how things works as much 
now and that affects those like myself who still are through lack of official
opportunities and that is a kind of dumbing down.  If lecturers are useless
themselves at programming how can they teach?  That's my experience!
