Subject: Using a Beeb for engine monitoring

I was thinking along the lines of those old aftermarket trip computers
available in the 80s - with the likes of instantaneous and average
MPG, along with trip odometers, and possibly other stuff like outside
temperature readouts and possibly even black ice warning (however that
works).

I have no idea how plausible this is, or whether it's even possible
with Beeb-based hardware. The interfacing electronics is probably over
my head. I thought the idea was interesting, in the same way that
those energy monitors makes people use less electricity, that an MPG
readout on the dash might make me drive more economically. I've got a
thing about numbers like that - I have a trip computer on my bicycle.
I can't bear riding without it, and I can't help looking at it and
checking my average speed and so on.
