Actually when you joined the list, it said that you should use a harmless 
password since it would be mailed back to you in cleartext. On the other 
hand I agree with you that storing passwords in cleartext can be a security 
risk, depending on what other data is stored with the password. However if 
everyone are using harmless passwords, the worst thing that a hacker could 
do is to unsubscribe you from the list, I believe?
