I wonder if poking around in the sources would make things any clearer? 
I did have an idea to write a simple Windows front-end to FCFS images to 
allow them to be opened. Not "as a filesystem" but a program that would 
give a fake folder view you could explore and draggy-droppy files.

But I got completely lost with trying to make sense of New Map [*], and 
that isn't even taking into account FCFS specific complications like 
compression or omitting unused sectors.
