I'm pretty but not 100% sure it's the data protection act 1998 you need
to quote. That's what they told us all at my place of work recently.
This was regarding gaining access records held by inhuman resources on
us. I don't thonk you are actually entitled to copies, but you are
allowed to look at your files. You will have to pay an admin fee though.
It *was* a maximum of ?10. It may be worth reading up on this act as if
you were you filmed, you *may* also be entitled to all the footage they
hold on you too for the same price??? This would be a real pain as they
can't give you pictures / video of anyone else without breaking the act
meaning they'd have to blot out everyone else at their own expense. This
may not apply to the workplace though?????. You'll have to read up.
Your termination - Sadly, I don't think you've got a leg to stand on
regarding unfair dismissal, neither do I think you are even entitled to
a reason. It certainly was unfair dismissal but Labour did sweet FA to
improve employers' rights. :-( . We can all guess that 'you are not a
team player' as you ate on your own *Dinner sinner!*, not forgetting you
would bring the morale down to 'an all time low' by having the tools in
your brain to sort out problems first time therefore show up your work
colleagues . Oh, and don't forget your negative effect on the business -
By you calling in a PC for repair because it actually needs it (*this
month*), and getting the problem solved first time, the company would
have to pay now, when really it wants to put off doing anything for as
long as possible. Do service users call a premium number? If so, think
of all the return calls they would miss out on with you there!!!
Lets face it, you were just too good for that job. If you'd really
wanted it, you'd have played the game by passing on duff information
sending the service user round and around in circles before finally
getting them so frustrated, they sling it out the window voiding any
obligation by the company. Two days later, they'd rush out to PC World
to buy that Dell with the copper coloured top. The company wins twice :-D

Your right to written reasons for dismissal
It is good practice for an employer to give reasons for dismissal. You
are entitled to receive a written statement from your employer giving
the reasons why you have been dismissed if you:
are an employee and have completed a year?s service with your employer
are employed under a fixed-term contract which has expired and is not to
be renewed
were dismissed while pregnant or on maternity or adoption leave
