I can?t speak for most people, unlike some people claim to (sic) but note:
It?s no good having a forum with lots of very technically minded, experienced
people, if you can?t have wide ranging discussion. It?s how ?web 2? works
? you have a critical mass of users creating content, some of which might
start talking about EastEnders (shudder) but it?s a price you pay for the
good stuff. Have to live with Human beings, not robots. I certainly wouldn?t
want the plug pulled in case I had to ask a relevant question occasionally.
People on here have been very supportive in the past of my fumbling efforts,
and I appreciate that. In that respect I?m probably in the know ?know bugger
all? category but I do think that helps the list tick along. The fact I have
some BBCs etc in my garage is probably better than them going to landfill.
Facebook page? Didn?t know there was one for this group.
I think the list does need a bit of a facelift and some new ideas, but I?m
very conscious that we are all busy people and it?s on a volunteer basis,
and value the contribution everyone makes.
There is also the issue of the digital black hole raised recently (in response
to one of my questions, ironically) and entropy will destroy our hobby if
we let it.
To be constructive ? perhaps we should say what we want in terms of content
(or perhaps have a sticky somewhere to the main projects?), and how much
we are prepared to contribute to building something new and better in terms
of time and/or funding.
For example ? I proposed last year, a tool to help people diagnose faults.
This didn?t go anywhere as I dropped that module from my degree and changed
roles, but perhaps we could amalgamate fault finding techniques and tools
into a project like Beebwiki and refer to that here.
Kind regards
John
