BobbiManners is developing a Host MOS Interface for the Apple IIe
that allows BBC targetted 6502 code to run, including 6502 language
ROMs including 6502 BBC BASIC.
It is difficult to get BBC BASIC to run on the unexpanded Apple II as
the host MOS (the Apple monitor) doesn't have any defined entry points,
and it tramples over large areas of memory and doesn't make it easy
for non-Apple code to run. As soon as extension memory is available it
becomes possible to page all the hardware and MOS dependences out of
memory.
