Subject: home computer profit margins
L.s.
Does anyone here know a dealer or otherwise have access to information
about buying/selling price of home computers around 1984?
A dealer (UK) told me for the BBC's this was (1984):
BBC model A: 289,- price he bought them from Acorn, sold for 299,-
BBC B's, by doing the upgrade himself: 289,- + 44,-, sold for 399,-
I can hardly believe this (esp. for the model A) even though I can't see
a reason he shouldn't tell me the truth...
I recall reading about the buy/sell price for BBC's around 1985 and the
numbers there were quite different (not sure where I read this), this
included all stages (Acorn's costs, Acorn's price for dealers & the
current retail price).
And what about buy/sell prices for other computers like the spectrum?
(that dealer said for other computers margins were better but didn't
specify exact amounts).
