That'd be like getting up for the loo during a Johnny Vegas routine. I
instantly saw COLOUR 1 at the claim it couldn't cope with numbers
greater than 32,767 (BASIC line numbers, of course); but what good
would it do to write in saying the BASIC integer variables could reckon
"to the nearest penny in £2M" - and would the LRB be the place for such
a factoid?
"In another, the crowning achievement of my modest career, the player
was the Scarlet Pimpernel, guiding an endless procession of aristocrats
from the gates of Paris through the countryside of Northern France to
safety in England, with an increasing number of frenetic sans-culottes
in lukewarm pursuit. Several guillotines were mysteriously scattered
through the woods, and would kill any aristo unfortunate enough to
stumble into one."
Could this have been the inspiration for Lemmings? The mind boggles...
