Cheers, I'll look at that later on.  I've not really fiddles around 
much with the boot side of this yet; this  A5000 is still just set up 
as it came to me, which looks to be pretty close to Vanilla,.  I'm 
new to RISC OS and really only intended to use it as a fileserver, 
though I may end up trying to link to to the ethernet at some point 
(if I can find a card, or serially otherwise) just to assist with 
file transfers.

If I get to the point where I actually need to back it up again I'll 
consider that; the advantage of Archive is of course that it did span 
discs - 23 of them in this case ...

(It's just so flaming slow as it head seeks at each swap between FS, 
which is at the start of every file, and with 1K viewdata frames you 
get a lot per disc ..)

It actually seems to want heads/cylinder information so it can create 
it's free space map.  It's got the size already, from sector 0, so I 
changed it to calculate some suitable values from that instead.  The 
GoMMC disc initialised OK now, and it installed everything 
fine.  Just ignored stations trying to log into it..   Since I got L4 
working I've not persued this one yet; I don't particularly want to 
tie up the GoMMC in a fileserver anyway.
