RISC OS and BeebIt can do just that. RISC OS will boot to a usuable state far 
quicker than Linux can.

BeebIt's emulation is as good as BeebEm's. It runs using less memory and 
resources and the sound emulation is excellent so no problems there. It can't 
do network emulation, but you can use it to access files from network filing 
systems.
