Resistors don't often burn out of their own accord (although it's
typical to find some that are pretty discoloured in old PSUs due to them
being run at close to tolerance for years). Chances are something else
has failed and caused it to let go like that.

At least you know it's just the PSU. Worth trying to fix it, at least to
bring another MDFS back into the world!
All quiet on the Acorn front here at present, although I think I've got
some webspace with decent bandwidth and disk space sorted out so
hopefully I can put some good quality pics online at last :)
