Which brought to mind the notion of Econet-over-IP, which AFAIK doesn't
exist, but could be possibly be fun over long distances.

Econet over IP is used in RISC OS for running Econet things over
ethernet. It's part of AUN.

Because of the way AUN is, if yo have an Archimedes on an Econet
network that wants to talk over a gateway to one on an Ethernet network,
you can end up with Econet over IP over Econet.
